Sansa Fuze 8gb September 4, 2010 Theta (New Castle, PA) The item is awesome. easy to use, easy to add music too, and sounds great. Its amazing how easy it is to use the fuze compared to other mp3 players ive owned or used. Picked up a DLO armband to go with it, and its awesome when out and about, or even when im joggin on the treadmill.
Way better than the Clip! September 4, 2010 maniac Bought this elsewhere way less ... no longer available BTW ...
Got clear plastic case for it ...
Got mp3 cable ...
All Rock!!!
The iNotInterested SUCKS in comparison.
Had one, returned the POS
I detested the interface on that one as not responsive.
I can use this in the car while stopped to quickly change tunes.
The TFT screen is just like your labtop > WOW bright!!!
Easy to use & picked up cheap
What not to like ...
Great Value until it Breaks August 30, 2010 SeattleGal (Seattle, WA USA) I loved this MP3 for all of its awesome features, and if it weren't for its functional problems, it would have been the ideal MP3 for me. Cheap and great features. However, from the beginning, it occasionally had the random problem of turning off suddenly without warning (this happened a couple times), and then finally, after only using it three weeks (very few times within those three weeks), it shut off and wouldn't turn on or recharge. I'm returning it to Amazon and will hopefully find a more reliable MP3 player.
Excellent value for what it does. August 29, 2010 Andrew 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
In the days of cell phones doing everything, it seems portable media players are becoming a niche item. Getting a cheap yet decent one is the name of the game, and this device delivers.
* In addition to playing MP3 audio, like just about every other player does, it also OFFICIALLY supports FLAC and OGG Vorbis audio, which is quite a rarity for any DAP.
* As advertised, the device supports viewing JPEG images and MPEG4 videos.
* It supports microSDHC, which allows the use of such cards up to 32GB in size. Note that you do not need a SD card adapter, as the device allows you to access the microSD card as a seperate USB mass storage device when set to MSC mode. You can save a buck here.
* It also includes a small microphone to record things, such as reminders.
* The FM radio tuner can also be recorded from if so desired.
* The proprietary connector on the bottom has line-level audio output that you can use if you can find a device that has the right pins for it. Useful for home stereos or FM transmitters for cars.
* As of this writing, Rockbox on the Fuze V2 is -almost- stable; the Rockbox devs have done a stellar job getting support for this device going, although you wouldn't know it unless you've been keeping track of SVN commits.
* Brand-new, you'll probably get approximately 18-22 hours of runtime if you play songs constantly. Actual runtime will probably vary with the format you play (mp3, flac, ogg vorbis, etc).
* The Fuze supports obeying Replay Gain tags on MP3 files, possibly on FLAC and OGG Vorbis as well. In a nutshell, this means that you can even out the volume of your music collection and prevent clipping losslessly. Wikipedia has more information on it.
There's some gotchas, however:
* If -any- files are added or removed from the device while connected via USB, it will trigger the player to re-index your media upon disconnect. If you have the internal flash and microSD card nearly full to bursting, this could take upwards of three minutes, so don't move files too frequently if you can avoid it.
* When seeking to the next song in the official firmware, there's a relatively large (~500ms) pause while it buffers. This pause tends to be shorter if the track is in internal storage, but it's still very noticable. Rockbox does not have this problem.
* The video playing aspect is very picky about media. Officially, you're supposed to use the Sansa Media Converter; however, the SMC doesn't work too well for many people, including myself. Instead, you can use a third-party tool called video4fuze (really just a GUI around mencoder and fuzemux) to transcode the video to the appropriate format (DivX 5, ~300-500Kbit/s, 20FPS, keyframe every 15 frames, 128Kbit CBR MP3 audio) and set the appropriate bits in the AVI file itself to make the device play it. The video quality is unfortunately quite blocky no matter what you do, but it's still fairly decent. The screen is so small anyway that you're unlikely to even WANT to watch a full-length movie on it.
* The FM tuner is unlikely to work well unless reception is pretty good. I don't live in a particularly urbanized area, so the stations I get have some pretty heavy static. If you've used the radio on a Walkman or Walkman-like device, you know what I mean.
* While connected to the computer, the Fuze is unusable. An animation plays on the screen and it tells you if it's being written to or read from, but you can't actually do anything on it until you unplug it. Rockbox allows you to use it while it's plugged in, but Rockbox doesn't support USB data transfer on the Fuze v2 at the time of this writing.
Overall, the device isn't perfect, but it's pretty close to perfection; close enough for me, anyway; video playback feels more like a gimmick on this device, but I knew that when I clicked the Order button; it's nice just to have the screen real-estate to read what song is playing. I can safely say that, so far, I've been extremely satisfied with this device, and I would highly recommend it. If you want to save money and only want music support, look for the Sansa Clip+.
We love it and purchased a second one later for husband. August 27, 2010 Elena M Tewmey (Valrico, FL, US) Love it. Don't forget to power down (it charges in an ON state) after a charge or it stays on and you don't know it, until it is dead when you go to use it next time.
Love the SD card feature too.
