 Great for stashing quick songs on, but terrible software! August 25, 2010

When I first got it, it worked fine, i put a lot of songs on it worked alright. The issues started happening when i synced it with my library. It synced it twice, doubling a lot of songs instead of giving an option to replace them. I deleted some songs manually off of it, it froze after i deleted about 20 songs and had to reset it. After that, everytime i played all tracks, it would be missing data when i played a song. And when i tried to que a specific song, it would que a differnt song that was higher on the list, like it didn't fully delete some songs and so it shifted all the tracks or something. Then I tried to fix it using the creative centrale. Worst software I've had to deal with. It's confusing, it won't just play the whole library on the computer, you'd have to transfer it to your computer and eat up your computer space (one of the reasons i wanted an mp3 player to save all my music on it and not take up any comp memory). Not only is it confusing, but it didn't save half of the songs I put into playlists i created.
On the whole, it's great as a portable device, great sound. But if you want to listen to it on your computer or organize it thouroughly, it's not the best for that at all.

I started with a Creative Zen Mozaic 8GB MP3 player. I found it so easy to use, I moved up to the 16GB Zen. I am unable to read books any longer, so this is the perfect alternative. I can download several books at a time and end up with hundreds of hours of enjoyment. The books are so easy to download, I can't believe it. The price is better than any competitors. I love this product and intend to continue to be a loyal customer.

I got the 16gig Zen Mozaic and I like it. As a Mac user the XNJB software works perfect, and I am free of the restrictive, controlling antics of iApple. You can plug this into any computer on earth and swap files without nuisance. You can use it as a drive, a voice recorder, radio (FM), and it has a tiny speaker which comes in handy in certain circumstance. If you don't use it for a minute, it does shut down, but in the long run that is good. Just make big playlists. It looks good too. I should note I do not use video on tiny screens, ever, so I don't care about those aspects. Enjoy!

Can't say that Creative was too ambitious in this rendition of their MP3 player but they should get a pat on the back for their attempt at original industrial design. But an MP3 player is less then a fashion accessory and more of a practical device.
For an MP3 player from a renown sound card manufacturer ... well it's kind of anticlimactic.
The FM radio is passable and the reception is quite well. I have no issues with the digital tuning. The radio locks onto the station and the sound for FM radio is ... well as good as FM radio tends to get without an HD radio option.
The earplugs are plastic and can be uncomfortable to wear when their covers inevitably fall off and get lost. Why can't they at least include a few replacement covers? I bet if they sold them you could get 100 for 25 cents ... they're that cheap quality.
Perhaps I was spoiled by my former MP3 player, an iPod Nano 3rd Generation. I'm really disappointed at the Mozaic's middling sound quality. Creative Labs has a history of creating award winning sound cards and they should not only compete against the aesthetic-centric Apple in the terms of sound quality but far surpass them (regardless of the price).
Even when I replaced the earplugs with a Koss PortaPro Headphones, I only notice a very bare improvement in the sound quality.
I can get by the unusual button sizes despite my lack of grace and refined fine motor skills so they don't lose any points in this department. But the user interface isn't as natural or welcoming like the GUI of the Apple iPod Nano and their fellow members of the Apple MP3 family.
But my biggest complaint with the Creative is its slavish dependence on Windows Media Player. The Creative Centrale program is the weakest link in the MP3 player. It's so not user friendly. Transferring playlists seems to elude me though I managed to transfer 1 out of 4 created playlists. The software's ability to upload the wrong things is another flaw. A lot of MP3's were not automatically uploaded and a lot of albums are missing (of which I only find out after I'm at work). Far too many MP3 tracks are automatically uploaded into duplicates and triplicates etc... files on my player. Can't the program see that one song is on the MP3 player 4 times? I shouldn't have to go through every album to manually delete these redundant files.
The player and software is far more zealous in their file uploading when it comes to photo files. I bought it as an MP3 player first and had no regard for it as a portable hard drive or a portable photograph frame. The screen is so small how can one enjoy a photograph when all the details of that photo requires the viewer to use an electron microscope to view.
I then had problems with getting [...] to properly recognize it so I could authorize it to play my audiobooks. Thank goodness for audible tech support.
I'll give my recommendation to the Creative Zen Mozaic MP3 player as it's a modestly priced 16GB player but prepare for some headaches trying to fix the many music file glitches the Mozaic experience will provide.

Getting a replacement..mine keeps freezing and dying...hopefully better experience with the next one. Creative hasn't done me wrong in the past...Love the little thing, exactly what I wanted, will update after the next one to see if it's just mine or a defect with all of them...
